About Attock City

Attock is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, the headquarters of Attock District on the Indus River near the border with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, famous for Akbar's Attock Fort, the 1883 Attock Bridge and the meeting of the Indus and Kabul rivers. It is the 36th largest city in Punjab, and its top sights also include Begum ki Sarai and the old Victorian station at Attock Khurd.

The modern city was founded in 1908, several miles southeast of Attock Khurd, the riverside town established by Akbar in the 16th century, and it was first named Campbellpur after Sir Colin Campbell. The Grand Trunk Road still runs past Mughal monuments such as Behram ki Baradari, Saidan Baoli and the Attock Tomb.

Attock is an easy trip from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Nearby Hasan Abdal adds the Tomb of the Hakims and the Tomb of Lala Rukh, and the ruins of Taxila lie a short drive to the east.
