About Oswego

Oswego is a village of about 35,000 people on the Fox River in Kendall County, Illinois, about 50 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. Founded in the 1830s as a river crossing and mill town, it kept a small historic downtown even as it grew into one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the region.

The Little White School Museum, in an 1850 church later used as a school, tells the story of the village and the Fox Valley with exhibits on farming, local families and early settlers. The downtown along Washington and Main streets has older brick buildings, restaurants and shops, and parks along the river give easy access to the water.

The Fox River is the town's best natural feature, popular for paddling, fishing and riverside walks at Hudson Crossing Park. Each June the PrairieFest celebration brings carnival rides and live music, while Aurora, Naperville and the Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area are a short drive away.

Best seasonMay to October for river paddling, parks and summer festivals.
Ideal stayA half day, combined with Aurora or Naperville.
ArrivingChicago O'Hare and Midway are each about an hour away by car; US 30 and US 34 serve the village.
