About Linyi

Linyi has given China some of its most famous names. The calligrapher Wang Xizhi and the strategist Zhuge Liang were both born in this corner of southern Shandong, then known as Langya, and the region's tombs yielded one of the great finds of Chinese archaeology: bamboo copies of Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Today Linyi is a large and fast-growing prefecture city on the Yi River, best known in China as a wholesale and logistics hub whose markets supply traders across the country. The city centre spreads along wide riverside parks, while the surrounding Yimeng Mountains, with Mount Meng as their highest summit, offer forests, rock gorges and karst caves. The hill country also gives Linyi its signature food, jianbing, paper-thin griddle cakes rolled around green onion.

High-speed trains connect Linyi with Jinan, Qingdao and the Yangtze River delta, and Linyi Qiyang International Airport has domestic flights. The city makes a natural base for Mount Meng and the counties of the Yimeng region.
