About Jundiaí

Jundiaí is a city in São Paulo state in southeastern Brazil, about 57 km from the state capital, famous for its vineyards and Festa da Uva grape festival, the Atlantic Forest of the Serra do Japi and the historic railway workshops of the Complexo Fepasa.

Its name means river of the jundiás, a fish once common in the local river. The town grew on the route inland from São Paulo, prospered in the coffee era and became a key railway junction, while Italian immigrants brought the grapes and winemaking that still define the region.

Visitors explore the cathedral, the São Bento monastery and the 1911 Teatro Polytheama, then head out to walk the trails of the Serra do Japi or taste wine at local cellars. Easy day trips lead to the old town of Itu, the Tietê waterfall at Salto and the glacier-polished rock of the Moutonnée park, a short drive to the west.
