About Bogor

Bogor is a city in West Java, Indonesia, about 53 km south of Jakarta, famous for its Botanical Gardens, its presidential palace and its frequent rain, which earned it the nickname Rain City. Its top sights are the Bogor Botanical Gardens, Bogor Palace, Bogor Cathedral, Zebaoth Church and the Batutulis Inscription.

In the Middle Ages Bogor was Pakuan Pajajaran, the capital of the Sunda Kingdom. Under Dutch rule it was named Buitenzorg, meaning without worries, and served as the summer residence of the governors-general of the Dutch East Indies, which left the city many classical European buildings. Sundanese culture still dominates the city today.

Bogor had 1,043,070 residents at the 2020 census and hosted the APEC summit of 15 November 1994. The city is the terminus of the KRL Commuterline from Jakarta, and its centre is one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
