Founded in the mid-eighteenth century in a valley of the Daqing Mountains, about 70 kilometres north-east of central Baotou, Wudan...Founded in the mid-eighteenth century in a valley of the Daqing Mountains, about 70 kilometres north-east of central Baotou, Wudang Zhao is the largest surviving Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Inner Mongolia. Its whitewashed, flat-roofed halls climb the hillside in Tibetan style, with murals, thangkas and Buddha statues inside. Monks still live here; go in the morning and allow about two hours.
