Why visit Fort Worth

Fort Worth grew up as a stop on the cattle trails, and that heritage is still alive in the Stockyards. Yet the same city is home to a remarkable cluster of museums designed by famous architects, a walkable downtown and a friendly, unhurried pace that sets it apart from its bigger neighbor.

The Stockyards

Fort Worth Stockyards

The Stockyards National Historic District keeps the cattle town spirit alive with brick streets, saloons and western wear shops. Twice a day, cowhands drive a herd of Texas longhorns down Exchange Avenue, and it is free to watch.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the historic Cowtown Coliseum hosts a rodeo with bronc riding, barrel racing and roping.

The Kimbell is famous for both its collection and its building. Louis Kahn's vaulted galleries fill with soft natural light, and the newer Renzo Piano pavilion sits across the lawn.

Food and local flavors

Fort Worth takes its beef seriously. Try slow smoked brisket at a barbecue joint, a chicken fried steak smothered in cream gravy and a steak in the Stockyards. Tex-Mex is everywhere, from enchiladas to sizzling fajitas, and a slice of pecan pie is the classic Texas finish.
