I recently visited Sterling Jewelers to create two custom pieces using jewelry that belonged to my mother, who has passed, one piece for my daughter and one for myself. From start to finish, Dina was truly extraordinary. When I first sat down with her, it felt as though she could read my mind. I explained my vision, but she understood it even better than I did. I’ve been going to Sterling Jewelers for about 20 years for purchases, restoration of antique jewelry, appraisals, jewelry repairs, and cleanings, and they have always been honest, reliable, knowledgeable, and consistent. This custom project with Dina is yet another reminder of why I trust them so much. Sorry to say my last experience with Sterling was less than satisfactory. The quality of the repairs has gone downhill in the last few years. I left a piece to be repaired and got it back in worse condition than I left it. I had to leave it again to be fixed the right way. When I picked it up the second time, the sales associate was condescending and made me feel like I did not understand the nature of the repair, however, I knew exactly why I returned the piece to be redone. It was because they did a poor job ‘fixing’ the original problem and had just created a different problem. Apparently, she just did not want to admit that the poor quality repair was their mistake. Sterling has always in the past provided quality repairs and great service, however, this time they missed the mark. The fact that they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by fixing their error rather than taking full accountability for their poor workmanship is disappointing.
